Its been a dream of ours since we started designing and making furniture to have a shop space to call our own. We're pleased to announce this dream came to life this year! We've been working hard to finally open Shop on the Mesa in Joshua Tree area (located in Yucca Valley - the next town over to be exact).

Here's a photo of a section of the finished shop - featuring the Boyd lounge chairs and Sunfair tables, along with other artisan goods we've carefully sourced. We'll share more photos in an upcoming post when we discuss the interior and display designs.

This blog post shares the store renovation and build out process which took us over four months (with lots of start and stop, naps, chilled La Croixs cans, Del Taco..). 

Before shots of the shop space. The space is around 800 sqft that had been awkwardly divided. There was water damage from winter storms, dust and debris.. lots of things that made this place unappealing. Despite the condition, it did not turn us away. We saw the potential in this space from the beginning.

Once we got the space we demo'ed the interior... everything had to go including the office partitions. It was a joint effort between Anthony and I to design and renovate. A shot of Anthony during the first days of demo. 

Pops came out from New Jersey to help too! He helped us remove the carpeting and also chisel the linoleum.

Removing the mastic adhesive was not an easy feat. Quite a laborious and messy process. 

We relied on contractors to help us with many aspects of the reno process such as the cooling, electrical and drywall. A scene from this summer.. Boyd napping under a AC vent to escape the triple digit temperatures outside.

A shot of the space nearly complete. A lot of our work requires planning ahead but also embracing the unexpected. The mastic removal on the floors were one of the things that caused unexpected issues. But the back office design we were quite happy with the results and glad to have planned for the special details. You can see a bit of the built in wood elements that will eventually to tie back with the store displays.

Amidst our client projects and other work obligations, we spent most all of the summer in the hot desert to finish this space in time for Fall. Which we eventually accomplished. We're now open and its October, just in time for the beautiful weather and visitors coming into enjoy Joshua Tree. We're patting ourselves on the back for accomplishing a professional milestone of opening a flagship store. Best of all, we're enjoying not being covered in paint and dust everyday.. hah!
